Modern Mid-Century Coastal Bedroom
Creating the perfect Coastal Themed Bedroom. When you think of creating a coastal inspired bedroom, what colors do you warm to? Coastal design comes in a variety of colors, from blues, yellows, greens, tans and oranges. Each color can represent a feeling of what brings you the most comfort, whether it is the feeling of seeing the ocean, the waves crashing against the shoreline, the feeling of a gentle wind blowing the leaf spines of palm trees, or the sun setting over the ocean at the end of a warm summer day. All these perceptions can present different feelings and senses which can be important in creating the right environment within your home.
Living in California, it’s no wonder that many of my design requests here are centered around more of an informal, casual or coastal atmosphere. Many people like the idea of really enjoying their living or bedroom spaces as opposed to the feeling of not being able to either put their feet up on the table or the need to remove your shoes when entering a room. Times have changed with the mindset that we want to be able to relax in our own homes.
Casual Design encompasses so many defining characteristics, soft and neutral tones, with touches of organic and earthy colors from the outdoors, furniture needs to be comfortable and relaxed, ideally sofas with oversized pillows that you can disappear in to for days with soft fabrics that are easy to care for and durable.
Accent furniture is typically wood, metal or leather…the more unfinished and raw the better, but something that doesn’t easily get damaged or necessarily “dinged” should someone want to put their feet up on it, or it gets nicked by the vacuum.
Finally accessories, that’s where we can bring in a little interest or pizzazz so to speak in the form of mixed metal artsy light fixtures or reflective decorative pieces, this helps to bring in some visual interest and dimension to an already casual environment that of which is the epitome of California Casual Design.
