Living in California the most obvious and requested Design style for sure is California Casual and Coastal with beach and summer vibes. Living near the coast will definitely have that effect and most everyone finds some form of relaxation, retreat by the beach or ocean or in close proximity. It does wonders for the mind body and sole and statistics show that people who live by the beach are happier and have better mental health than those who live inland.
How do you know what Design Style you are? Do you flip through various magazines or scour the internet and look at page after page of beautifully decorated rooms to see which one peeks your interest? Or have you always known your design style but is changing overtime as new ideas and designs are gracing home decor magazines?
This design concept is not one that you would necessarily identify with coastal design, due to its rich dark color palette. However it does have characteristics that you would typically associate with a feeling of the ocean and beach vibes, the black woven cane chair and complementing hand woven rattan coffee table and blue herringbone area rug, all have unmistakable elements of coastal style.
I wanted to create a post about doing a design all on line using the e-design process and what it entails, and how we as designers pull it all together once you contact us to help you with a project.
For this, I thought I would share this e-design project we did for a small studio apartment for a young married couple. This project was to furnish the Bedroom/Living Area in a small studio apartment and the inspiration for the space was a Modern Industrial Design Style.
As Designers one of the most popular requests we get is help with accents and accessories as these VIP’s (very important pieces) play a huge role in making a space feel warm, inviting and complete…For me, this is one of the most rewarding parts of my job as you really get to delve into a homeowners personality using colors, textures, hobbies and interests to create a decorative story, adding those all important accessories is key to a beautifully finished space!
No sooner are the holiday decorations packaged away until next year do we start thinking about that all important summer vacation. There are numerous commercials coming your way on TV and magazines in waiting rooms to thumb through touting dream getaway vacations in tropical warm climates, white sandy beaches and warm inviting oceans....not forgetting an umbrella beverage to really get you in the mood…..
A mood board can be particularly vague at times. You have various pieces selected and displayed in a beautiful pattern or design, but does it really help you envision a design in your space? The mood board is an important first step for us as Designers to create, as if gives us a way to gather some ideas for a design and to really tap into a persons thoughts and ideas.
If only to be a teenager again, I would have had an absolute blast decorating my study area with all the pretty colorful, girly and an abundance of pink decor items there are out their to discover... However at this point in my life, it might be a little loud for the husband so maybe when the kids have left for college I’ll hijack one of their rooms (sorry kids) and create my own “Glamsophisticated She Shed".
What is a bathroom without all the decorative elements and bits and bobs…..can I speak for everyone when I say that the most exciting part of a bathroom remodel is choosing the tile, flooring and hardware, then the soft touches, towels and florals... so much fun to see everything come together.
A lot of people are choosing to work from home these days which is a nice plus if you work for a company that allows you to work remotely! I know I would have given anything to work from home while sitting on the 405 Fwy for hours inching to get home as fast as I could! Everyone looks just so happy commuting on an overcrowded freeway! So if you are fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work from home why not consider turning your guest bedroom or den into an office combo space.
Summer is coming to an end, but this Design Concept is sure to extend those summer vibes just a little longer. Love how these wood tones intertwined with natural fibers and soft textures create a peaceful, simple and serene oasis bedroom for one to relax and reflect. I love the look of a gallery wall, rather than a lonely piece of artwork sitting all by itself. Gallery walls can tell a story of things that make you happy, and remind you of good times and events. You can also mix sentimental pieces, textures, materials, or objects with your art to create a really unique style …. Get creative with your prints and display them up on your walls.
One of my favorite color combinations is navy and pink so when I am asked to gather together a concept board with ideas using these colors for a glam inspired living room, I am happy to oblige. This is such a fun color palette just bursting at the seams with personality, sophistication and style. Do you have a particular color combination in mind and just want to see if its right for you. As I put this Mood Board together, I am dreaming of relaxing in this small seating corner of a room that overlooks a view of the ocean, basking in the fresh scent of the clean ocean air as the wind gently breezes in through the patio doors. They say that just visiting the beach can do wonders for the mind, body and soul...
The inspiration or this relaxing, serene Country inspired Master Bedroom came from the colors of a beautifully manicured garden that could be seen from the windows. Using a sage green as the base we built on that color and brought in a collection of colors all represented by the flowers and plants from outside, making for a pleasant and cozy retreat anyone could enjoy:-)
Why is Mid-Century Modern and Modern Design so desired these days? It was a design style back in the 1950’s and 60”s associated with some of the famous works by Arne Jacobsen - “the Egg Chair”, Charles & Ray Eames - the iconic "Eames Lounge Chair” and architect pioneers like Ludwig Mies van Der Rohe and most familiar Frank Lloyd Wright to name but a few. It was a time when furniture and architecture was characterized by clean lines, organic and streamlined forms and simple embellishments, no fuss, functional, yet comfortable pieces, and some in quite extraordinary designs!

Spring is a great time to clean and purge those cupboards and drawers , reorganize those closets and paint some walls!!! There’s something about Spring time that gets you in the mood to clean :-) I personally like to refresh and decorate, like repainting a wall or walls, you wouldn’t believe how just a new coat of paint can transform your space overnight!
